Recently, I booked a set of flights using the growing popular cheap fare finder, “Skyscanner.com.” Now, if I am being totally honest, I knew the airline I was going to fly and the dates and times I wanted to depart for vacation and return home from vacation; I pretty much had it all planned out. That said, I was really curious about the booking process through Skyscanner.com; is it just like Expedia, Orbitz, and other travel booking sites or does it differ any when completing a booking? I had used Skyscanner.com in the past to discover the best month, even days, and airline to visit a specific city, as well as to discover different flight deals going on around the globe.
However, the booking process through Skyscanner.com was actually completely foreign to me and the ever inquisitive travel soul within really wanted to know exactly how it works! Mostly, I wanted to be able to share with my friends and readers, what you could expect when booking your flights through Skyscanner.com. However, I have to admit that there was a small part within that just really wanted the opportunity to try something new, regardless of how little and silly.
The next trip I would be planning would be a short 4 day trip to Savannah, Georgia in September. So with that, I figured it was the perfect opportunity to test this Skyscanner.com booking process out! Below are my discoveries.
For starters, Skyscanner.com is a very easy site to both navigate and to complete booking processes, which is a major plus. One of the things I really dislike is travel assistance sites that are incredibly complicated. I mean, you are selling something to someone who really wants to purchase; why make it so hard for them to do so.
Second, I love that Skyscanner.com does not make you choose multiple different travel assisting websites to “compare fees.” I don’t know about you, but I am not a huge fan of multiple cheap travel windows and ads popping up, simply because I was required to do so in order to complete my search. I totally get that these cheap travel websites are trying to show proof in comparison; however, I chose you already; just show me the goods!
Third, I love that after you enter your flight request, Skyscanner.com displays at the very top the best, the cheapest, and the fastest fares. Sometimes I am all about the cheapest route; I mean, I display myself as a successful cheap travel planner for a reason; I am really good at it! But, other times, I want the best and the fastest. So, for all those different kinds of lifestyles, Skyscanner.com appears to have you covered in this respect.
Fourth, I love the setup of Skyscanner.com. On the left hand side, you have as many options as you need to narrow down your perfect flight. You can even narrow down your search by airline if you wish to. The center is the best populated info and on the right, well, you get adds, but at least they are not popping up all over your page, and in all honesty, they relevant adds…unlike some travel websites I have visited.
Fifth, once you select your fare of choice, you will be directed to the actual airline website. This was very surprising to me; I did not expect this. My thought was that I would complete the entire process within the Skyscanner.com website; like Expedia, for example. In trying to give you the best of the best, which is what I always strive for, I completed this process three times and each time the redirect took under ten seconds. During the redirect, you are presented upgrade options that you can choose to accept or decline. If I am being totally honest, I could care less whether I complete a booking process within a third party travel sales website or on an actual airline website but for those who do prefer completing their purchase with an actual airline, Skyscanner.com is the website for you.
Lastly, Skyscanner has an app! You heard me; this awesome website comes downloadable through your app store. Why download Skyscanner? Well, you can easily search flights from the ease of your own phone that you likely have at your fingertips, literally, at all hours of the day. Also, you can opt to receive price alerts and I don't know about you, but if i selected to receive price alerts, i want them as soon as possible so that I can instantly book a trip when it is at its lowest cost. I am not always on my computer but i for sure always have my phone on me!
So, there you have it! That really is the skinny on how the Skyscanner.com flights search works; short but sweet and that is how I actually prefer it. I am sure I am not alone when I say that daily life is just too busy, and even chaotic at times, to waste too much time fighting with travel booking systems and websites or being given the runaround. Skyscanner.com definitely does not do that. In fact, Skyscanner.com does the exact opposite. After going through the booking process, I have come to the conclusion that when looking for and booking the best airfare based on my individual requirements per trip, Skyscanner.com is built perfectly for me. I really hope you agree.
