Delta Skymiles Deals- "Best way to get more for your miles!"

Hey there, fellow Skymiles friends! Are you itching to travel but bills currently have your extra funds a bit tight right now? Feeling like your soul really needs a change of scenery for a few days, but also fear that you can only afford either a hotel or an airplane ticket, maybe neither? Well, if you are a Delta Skymiles member, you may want to check out the Skymiles Deals page!

Recently, my second half and I had to dump some extra cash into our lovely Michigan log cabin. Doing so caused a good chunk of change to be withdrawn from our favorite funding account; our travel stash!

Still, the itch to jet-set as much as possible is so real, and I really wanted to explore someplace new! Therefore, I turned to my ever trusty travel website, Delta.com! Originally, my intention was to see how many Delta Skymiles Jeff and I had saved up. However, in doing so, I stumbled across something called "Deals and Offers" on the Delta website.

First step, book your flight and hotel. Next, book some awesome activities at the best price!

Now, I have been a Delta Skymiles member for at least 5 years now. That said, I did not know there was a Skymiles only deals club! Okay, it is not really a "club" per-say, but it sounds cool! Honestly, Delta Skymiles is free to join and I highly recommend you do! Even if you only travel once per year; skymiles add up quicker than you would think! Plus, Delta Skymiles Deals, y'all!!!

Back to my dilemma. We wanted, no needed, to get away! Vacation planning was on the brain and when vacation planning is on the brain, other thoughts are put to the wayside until vacation planning is finalized! With our vacay cash stash low and our possible travel dates just around the corner, what ever would we do?

Okay, okay, I guess I can drop the dramatic humor. Honestly, scoring last minute deals, vacation or otherwise, is exciting, and so was discovering the last minute travel deals via the Delta Skymiles Deals sub-page! Additionally, it was super easy and fun to use, and planning a vacation via Skymiles Deals literally took the guesswork and search time out of last minute cheap travel shopping; for that I am quite grateful and thankful!

I must admit, I was skeptical to check out the Delta website right off the bat, as I knew I did not have enough Skymiles to book 2 flight yet, let alone an entire vacation. You see, I emptied out my Skymiles bank on the previous vacation and had not yet built up enough Skymiles. However, as a Platinum Delta Skymiles credit card holder, I know that I am able to use miles like cash, so I thought I would take a look! With that said, I was wrong about not having enough miles to make it worth my while! The Delta Skymiles Deals page displayed vacation deals as low as 14,000 Skymiles! Needless to say, I was stunned!

A few options to consider...

If your routine departure city does not appear under the advertised deals and you prefer not to travel to one of the airports listed, check out Skymiles deals from your departure city! The deal may not be as low as some of the advertised ones; however, if you are a Delta Skymiles credit card holder, you can use your Skymiles like cash to drive the price down.

Basically, subtract the amount of Skymiles you wish to use from the total, so to decrease your out of pocket expense. For example, you have 15,000 Skymiles and your desired trip costs $500. Minus $150 (15,000 Skymiles = $150) from $500 and your trip total is now just $350 (+taxes/fees). See, options!

Today (2/20/2019), I scoped out Delta Skymiles Deals and under "North America" I discovered 10 round trip flight routes with Skymiles redemption options ranging from 14,000 to 33,000 Skymiles; including round trip flights from Seattle to Kona, Hawaii for only 33,000 (Skymiles to dollars, that is only $330)!

Now, just like with pretty much any deal you purchase, there may be some stipulations, so read carefully. Common ones you may find, especially with the "last minute deals," could include the following conditions:

  • You must travel between now and some specific end date. However, if you are looking at last minute deals, that should not be too much to ask.

  • Another caveat could be that you have to book your trip for at least three days. This is just an example, but you get the picture.

So, now that I have provided you with a brief insight into Delta's Deals, head on over and check it out! While there, sign up for Delta Skymiles if you have not done so already.

If you are interested in becoming a Delta Skymiles credit card holder, click here to learn more! It is my absolute favorite travel credit card for many reasons! Delta Skymiles, in my opinion, is the leader in the airline award travel industry. They treat their credit card holders very fairly, their points never expire, you can use your points in more ways than any other airline company, and not just on flights! Plus, unlike some points reward systems, they make it incredibly easy to use your points and have zero blackout dates. What more could you ask for?
