I know I have said it before, “If you are planning a trip to Las Vegas, you must check out the energetic side of Fremont Street.” I truly stand by this statement; especially after my most recent Las Vegas trip; the trip I ahead of time dubbed “Lucky Number Seven” but post-trip now call, “Unlucky Number Seven.” Oh well, I still had a blast, as always, and a large portion of that good time is courtesy of my evenings spent on the ever growing popular Fremont Street Experience.
Although there are many fun things to do and entertaining and wild things to be seen on Fremont Street and the surrounding Downtown Las Vegas area, the highlight of this post is the Las Vegas main stage that always offers free concerts in the center portion of the closed to traffic five block party street in Downtown Las Vegas.

Six out of the seven Las Vegas vacations I have taken, I have visited Fremont Street Experience. Actually, the very first time I ventured to Las Vegas, which was almost 14 years ago, I stayed at Binion’s Horseshoe Casino. Binion’s is in the heart of the Fremont Street Experience district and is one of the original hotel and casinos of Las Vegas. As much as I could make this a historic piece on the very cool past that Binion’s Horseshoe Casino has, as previously promised, this post is all about the musical entertainment that Fremont Street Experience offers.
Each of the times I have visited Fremont Street Experience, I have had the honor of rocking out to some really awesome bands. I mean, they better be awesome, right? They are pretty much performing on the most famous outdoor stage with the most foot traffic in all of Las Vegas! If you are a band performing on this main stage and would like an invitation back, your main goal should be to pull in and keep the attention of those who appear to be just passing through. Every band will have a following of some sort, family, friends, and groupies who attend the majority, if not all of a bands shows. However, to get a ‘call back’ on this big stage, bringing along your followers just is not enough…unless you are, say, “Eddie Money” and people showed up to this specific location primarily for the show (his band was on Fremont Street’s Main Stage when I visited this past weekend).
So, if you are a cover band who has been blessed with the opportunity to rock out up on the Fremont Street Main Stage and you are hoping to make frequent appearances, well, this means bringing your A-game like you have never brought it before. You really must be on point during this first time performance; your entire band must be completely in sync with each other at all times and your set list really needs to be catchy and familiar to the masses.
The goal of the Fremont Street Experience entertainment committee is to hire bands that have the appeal to gather in front and around the stage, a large crowd of people who are visibly having a great time and, of course, spending money at the local beverage stands and shops, as well as the casinos before, during and after the show. Also, the people taking to Fremont Street for other reasons than to hang out in the street, enjoying kick-ass music, will find themselves sticking around to listen to and watch those bands that perform popular covers (most bands are cover bands) with an energetic feel. The main idea, at least for your Fremont Street Experience debut, is to rock out to catchy, recognizable songs that most people, young, middle and senior ages, can jam out to. There is nothing better than a great band performing under the largest light screen show in the world in the “Entertainment Capital of the World.” Oh, well, except for a great band who performs the best of the best good-time 'sing along songs' that have you and your friends totally entertained. You know the ones I am referring to, "Take Me Home Tonight," "Don't Stop Believing," "Livin' on a Prayer" and many, many more.
Now, Fremont Street Main Stage performers do not just add there name to a list and when it comes up, they get their Fremont Street Experience fame debut. No, Fremont Street entertainment takes reserving music entertainment very seriously for each night the stage is live. Bands must try out in front of an entertainment team, sometimes more than once, and if they make the cut, they are put on a list and if they do not, well, better luck next time. Although free of charge, this Main Stage show is one of the greatest tourist appeals and pulls to Fremont Street Experience. Therefore, the performers blessed with the invitation to perform must have it all; character, energy, charm, attention catching material, total visual and rhythmic collaboration all around, likability, and the list goes on. Not just any band makes it on stage.
Speaking of free; what I believe to be the best part about this offered entertainment is just that, it is free! Do you know why it is free? It is not because the bands, some of which are established and famous, decide to donate their evenings to rock out in Downtown Las Vegas; although, that still sounds like fun exposure to me. It is because the casinos in Downtown Las Vegas are kind enough to fund this great attraction for visitors to this Las Vegas district and I am certain you can guess why they do this.
Although I am sure there are wonderful and kind leaders and owners of these fantastic casino resorts on and near Fremont Street Experience who want all us tourists to have the time of our lives, that is not exactly why they throw in a free concert each night. The corporate side within me knows that this for sure is a business decision, and a smart one at that. By Fremont Street Experience offering free nightly entertainment at the casinos expense, more and more people make that short trip from The Strip to Fremont Street during the evening hours; a time of day where Las Vegas goers are likely to impulse spend than during daytime hours for various reasons. Also, I would place my bet on the fact that some Vegas vacationers even opt to reserve their hotel right in the thick of it all at one of the Downtown Las Vegas casino resorts or hotels because of the free nightly entertainment. Again, nothing is better than a good concert...unless, it is a good and free concert. This is especially true when on vacation, and even more, a Las Vegas Vacation, where you will likely spend money like it is going out of style.
Speaking of spending money like it is going out of style, that is just what the casino owners in Downtown Las Vegas are hoping happens by offering free live entertainment. They hope that this attraction brings people off the The Strip and to Fremont Street Experience to enjoy their evenings in Las Vegas. Hey, it is a good marketing and sales tool; you might as well take advantage of all the free and cheap Las Vegas attractions that you can, right? Well, this is where you go if you want a good show at zero out of pocket cost; well, until you add in the other 'stuff' but we are only talking free entertainment here.
Now, earlier I informed you that “Eddie Money” performed at Fremont Street Experience when I was last in Las Vegas. Most of you know who Eddie Money is or at least heard of him I hope. He is the owner of some of the most iconic classic rock songs born out of the late 1970’s and throughout the 1980’s. Although Eddie Money did release songs, and good ones at that, well into the 2000’s, much of his most known music, what I like to call ‘his throwbacks,’ are well known to the wide age range I mentioned previously; the young, the middle and the senior age ranges. Boy did this factor weigh in on the major crowd his concert pulled to Fremont Street Experience on Saturday, July 21.
Another fun fact about the Eddie Money concert I saw was that he has made recent concert touring a family event. That is right, while performing on Fremont Street Experiences Main Stage; he was accompanied by his children who too are performers. It was a really cool thing to witness and a very fun experience; especially, because it was free!
