1. Winter is China’s low travel season.
Don’t like crowds? No problem; plan your China travels during their low season. Yes, winters in china are cold, especially in northern China. However, I can promise you that you will appreciate how much more relaxed your travels will be without the mess of crowded attractions and places visited. Sure, being able to capture snapshots of beautiful spaces and places in China without my photo being littered with a ton of strangers was great. However, my favorite thing about the low season for travel was not having to stand in a single line. We visited many different attractions throughout our 8-day, 5 city China tour; let’s just say around 3 to 4 per day, and not once did we wait to enter. As you may have noticed; I can be a bit impatient. When there is limited time in each location visited around the world, no one wants to spend hours of that time in long lines.
2. Winter flights typically cost less.

As you can imagine, because winter is China’s low season, probably because of the cold temps; one of the best ways to entice tourist to travel to China is to slash airline costs. Then, advertise! Personally, I have purchased travel to a destination based solely on the low airfare advertisement that landed in my email or that I saw as an online advertisement. Typically, when you find cheap airfare to a destination during its low season, cheap hotels are next! Which leads me to my next point.
3. Just like airline tickets, you can typically find cheaper prices on hotel rooms during the Winter season. Bonus!
I love when I see travel websites like hotwire.com, hotels.com, or booking.com, slash prices on hotels. This often happens much more during low season. I totally understand why someone may not want to travel to Florida during Hurricane Season (although, there are cheaper travel packages offered); there are many factors that could create a bad trip – even the potential of the trip being cancelled altogether. When planning a winter trip to China, the worst part is the cold, and even colder weather has some benefits. For starters, the next reason for why you should visit China in the winter.
4. Beautiful snow-covered scenery.

You say you hate the snow, but I know you “Oooooh” and “Ahhhhh” when you see those beautiful photos of trees, bushes, buildings, and so on, glistening in their snow-covered glory; and it is even better in person! China is no different. There are many villages in China that are absolutely stunning when snow and ice covered. For the scenery photographers out there, I would go as far to say that you must photograph China during the winter. Plus, China has many lakes and rivers that freeze over during the winter and offers some very exciting opportunities for skating. Not to mention all the mountains that allow for great skiing, snowboarding, and tubing. China also has a yearly ice with lights fest; it is formal known as the
5. If you plan your trip right, you get the opportunity to experiencing Chinese New Year; the joys, excitement, and the culture.

Chinese New Year tends to change yearly; however, it always starts on the 23rd day of the 12th lunar month of the Chinese calendar; which typically ends up being at the beginning of February. Chinese New Year is noted as being the most colorful and lively festival of the year in China. With bright lights and fireworks, festivals, parties, gift giving, and lucky, healthy, and happy wishes for the year to come, Chinese New Year is an event to experience!

6. Summers are not just crowded; they are hot and humid too!
True, Northern China winters; Beijing and surrounding areas, are quite cold. However, summer months in China are very hot and humid and I have heard people say that this humidity and heat causes quicker exhaustion. So, while winter is cold, and you will want to pack cold-weather gear (don’t forget the hand-warmers), you are a lot less likely to tire out while exploring and engaging in all the wonderful activities that China has to offer. Like, hiking the Great Wall of China, spending hours roaming Imperial Palace and Forbidden Gardens, exploring the Bazaar in Shanghai, and so on. Sure, you could visit during the spring and fall; however, then you will run into the crowd issue. Head to China during the winter to avoid both!
