Although hard to believe, March is here! As we move into the last month of the first quarter of 2019, we tend to look forward to many invigorating characteristics of the "Mars month." If my fellow Northerners and I are lucky, this is the month we quite possibly begin to see the first signs of the awakening of Earth after a cold, dormant winter. Our hopes are that gone goes bare trees and and bland grounds decorated in that white, frozen stuff, and out comes the initial signs of new growth! Again, if we are lucky!
March is a highly entertaining month! Probably, a top favorite for some! Why? Well, as already stated in the first paragraph, temperatures tend to increase and snowy days tends to decrease. Plus, March has an eventful to do list! So, let's get into it, shall we. Check out this National Calendar list for the month of March; which days will you choose to celebrate?
Before moving forward to the list, I want to give a major thanks to Holiday Insights for the education they provided me with in order to create this post!
1. National Peanut Butter Lovers Day!
As a fellow peanut butter lovMer, the month of March speaks to me from the very beginning! You see, for the first 28 years of my wonderful life, I was not able to eat peanut butter. I have a nut allergy, but over time, peanuts and almonds became okay for me to eat! Boy have I made up for it in the past 6 years though; I put peanut butter on my peanut butter!
2. National Old Stuff Day!
When I first read this, I thought to myself, "Okay, so am I supposed to praise my old stuff, part ways with my old stuff, or what?" Well, this day actually got its recognition from the saying, "Hey, what's new?" and the response, "Oh, nothing; same old stuff." So, on March 2, you can acknowledge National Old Stuff Day however you see fit; however, for me, I think I will choose one of my takes on the day; praise or part ways with old stuff...not sure which one yet.
3. National if Pets Had Thumbs Day!
Sure, there are other noteworthy National recognition's on the 3rd of March, but National if pets had thumbs day has got to take the cake, right? Maybe it is because I am a little quarky, but I for sure think this is a day I could celebrate, while also creating many jokes for! So, I say let's acknowledge it! Can I get a thumbs up from all you cool cats out there?
4. National Holy Experiment Day
Personally, this National day is pretty neat to me! Holy Experiment Day is a day to try something religious! You officially have the opportunity to try something new relating to religion. Maybe you are interested in learning more about a religion that intrigues you, or perhaps you are curious about different foods in specific religions, make March 4th the day you try a food that is symbolic to a specific religion.
Take Baklava for example; in Greece, it is supposed to be made with 33 layers of dough and is referring to the years of Christ's life. If you have not yet tried Baklava, like me, maybe you will get your hands on some and make March 4th the day you do! Heck, maybe you will prepare it yourself! Other ideas could be to simply say a prayer. If you do not pray or your prayers are few and far between, maybe try saying a prayer on March 4th; it can't hurt!
5. Fat Tuesday /Mardi Gras
I certainly hope this Nationally celebrated March event is marked on everyone's calendar! It literally states in the name that we are allowed to indulge in fattening foods! Fat Tuesday and Mardi Gras is a time to live it large, party it up, heavily indulge! It is the day before Ash Wednesday; the first day of Lent, a long abstaining period in the Christianity region. The purpose of Fat Tuesday is to overly gratify our taste-buds and overly satisfy our bellies, as the following day, we begin abstaining.
Many establishments, and even districts within certain cities, utilize Fat Tuesday and Mardi Gras to their advantage by putting together parties in the days honor! Unless your New Orleans; then Mardi Gras lasts for 2 whole weeks!
6. Ash Wednesday
As stated above, Ash Wednesday is associated with the Christian belief. It is a day of penitence and the first day of Lent, a period of 46 days when Christians give up something they typically like to do (self-denial), in the honor of Jesus Christ and in preparation of the believer for Easter.
7. National Crown Roast of Pork Day
Well, honestly, yours truly is at a loss for words... Evidently, to say you partook in "National Crown Roast of Pork Day" you actually have to cook and eat Crown Roast of Pork. I may eat pork on March 7th; however, it may not be Crown Roast; it seems like the most difficult pork dish to cook and I am not sure I will have the time! However, it was the only option to list on this day, so there you have it; National Crown Roast of Pork Day!
8. International Working Women's Day
As you know, or at least I hope you know, I am a woman, so naturally this day had to make my list! What I love about Working Women's Day is that it is an International listing! So, to all my grinding gals around the globe, keep on putting in that hard work, Boss Babes, and if you have the time, celebrate yourself for being a fierce working woman! You deserve it!
9. National Panic Day
Hmmm...I usually try to keep my panicking to a bare-minimum; yoga helps! However, on this day, feel free to just let it out! Panic all you want, although I am not sure anyone really wants to do that. Regardless, if you feel it coming, screw the mindfulness and meditation; just full-on panic! You will get back to having a clear, level head tomorrow.
10. Day Light Savings Day!!!
Finally! For those areas around the world that observe daylight savings, March 10th is the time of year when we skip the clocks ahead one hour. Although the loss of an hour in a day is not necessarily exciting; the fact that there will be more daylight in a given 24 hour period is excellent!
11. National Worship of Tools Day
So, because I already acknowledged a day for the ladies earlier in the month, I felt it only fair that I shout out National Worship of Tools Day for the guys! Now, don't get me wrong, I myself use tools for various projects around the house and know that many of my fellow gal-pals do too. However, the large majority of tool masters out there are guys, so eat your hearts out on this day, gents! And, ladies, pat yourselves on the back for a job well done for all the times in the recent past that you have wielded a tool.
12. National Girl Scouts Day
Hey, Girl Scouts! Congrats on having your own day! I tell you what I would love to do on National Girl Scouts Day...EAT GIRL SCOUT COOKIES!
13. National Jewel Day
National Jewel Day is exactly as it sounds; a day when one it is most appropriate (other than birthday's, holiday's, and anniversaries) when one should feel free to give and receive jewelry! Jewelry stores have to love this day! However, I wonder how many people out there actually are aware of National Jewel Day? I know I was not aware until now.
14. National Popcorn Lovers Day
Now this is my kind of day! I am a popcorn freak; it is my go-to indulgent snack! For all my popcorn loving comrades out there, it is a great day to indulge in the buttery, cheesy, caramel-ly, crunchy corn treats!
15. Ides of March Day
If you recall, March 1 marked the 1st day of the year in the ancient Roman calendar. Ides of March Day symbolizes the first day of Spring in the Roman Calendar. Interestingly, Julius Caesar was warned by prophets, "beware of the Ides of March." He must not have taken this heed too seriously; he was stabbed by Marcus Brutus on the Ides of March in 44 BC.
16. National Everything you do is Right Day
I totally cannot wait to share this one with my boyfriend, Jeff! This one is open to interpretation; however, let's try to remember what truly is right and wrong on this day, shall we? When acknowledging this day, keep it lighthearted.
17. Happy St. Patrick's Day!
This is by far my favorite day of March and I do not think I am alone in this statement! I do decent from Irish ancestry; however, on this day of the year, I am pretty certain everyone pretends to have some percentage of Irish in them. It is probably one of the funnest days of the calendar year, so let's all be Irish and have a great time on March 17th!
18. National Goddess of Fertility Day
This day celebrates Aphrodite, as well as other Gods and Goddesses of Fertility. In early times People would pray and make contributions to Aphrodite when seeking to create a family. If you are currently trying to procreate, maybe a little prayer on this day could help. I am sure it at least would not hurt.
19. National Tea for Two Tuesday
This is fun! I think I will invite a friend for a "tea for two" on Tuesday, March 19! I could go for some good conversation with a good friend and a nice cup of antioxidants!
20. Happy Spring Equinox
A day symbolizing an exit from winter and an entrance into the awakening of the Earth. Really, enough said; happy Spring, everyone. Seems this is a short but sweet section on this list, I thought it would be fun to introduce a few others on this busy March day.
- National Extraterrestrial Abduction Day
- National Agriculture Day
- National Proposal Day
- National International Earth Day
21. National Credit Card Reduction Day
Now, this is a day that I think may be helpful to people around the globe. If you are thinking of reducing your credit cards, perhaps March 21st is the day for you to take that leap. It is already marked on the calendar after-all.
22. National Goof-Off Day
Finally, a day for us to throw responsibility to the wind and spend the whole day playing. Forget about that deadline and spend the day relaxing and vegging out, or doing something you truly want to do! Sounds lazy and irresponsible, right? Well, that is what it is all about. Why not?
23. National Puppy Day!
This day celebrates, well, puppies! And, who doesn't love puppies? Puppies do a lot to help our moods, increase happiness, lower anxiety, give unconditional love; the list is endless. Puppies deserve a date for national recognition; I cannot wait to celebrate mine in a few weeks!
24. National Chocolate Covered Raisin Day!
I do not know who created this day, but I sure am thankful! Chocolate covered anything (okay, maybe not anything...) is always welcomed in my life, so on March 24th, you better believe grabbing a box of chocolate covered raisins will be on the agenda! I mean, it would not be a nationally recognized day if it was not supposed to be observed, right? Mmmm, I am already dreaming about those yummy treats!
25. National Waffle Day!
As you can imagine, National Waffle Day is a day to indulge in those sweet, light and fluffy golden breakfast gems! Waffles were a major fixture in my breakfast routine for years; however, as I got older, smarter choices were required. With that said, on this day, I just might have to revert back to my waffle eating days, and indulge in a yummy fruit topping covered sweet breakfast treat!
26. Make up your own holiday...day
Well, this could get interesting. Just think of the possibilities. What will your made up holiday be? What would it consist of? I can tell you that mine likely will center around travel, but who would think otherwise. Maybe, "National Budget Travel Day?"
27. National "Joe" Day
I hadn't a clue what this meant when initially reading this title. However, after learning more about it, the day is pretty interesting. National "Joe" Day is a day when people have the freedom to change their name. You do not like your name? Change it! Okay, it may seem a little over the top, but I learned that some actually go forward with changing their name. So, if you are not a fan of your name, change it on March 27th! It is likely that most people will not change their name on this day, but it is there if you need it.
28. National Something on a Stick Day
Oh my, I love food on a stick (I think by now you may start to realize just how much I love food in general)! Now, you do not have to be traveling to enjoy food on a stick but some of my favorite food on a stick moments have been during vacations! New York City - chicken on a stick from a Times Square food truck, Washington DC - delicious Polish kabobs, and delicious fried chicken on a stick in New Orleans. Mmmm... I definitely will be partaking in National Something on a Stick Day.
29. National Mom and Pop Business Owners Day
There is something extra-special about mom and pop businesses; there is so much heart and soul in each operation, and celebrating the hard-work small business owners emit into their 'baby' is important. Hey, mom and pop shops, thank you for providing us with excellent customer service and great products. On this day, I vow to only shop at and eat at mom and pop businesses.
30. National Take a Walk in the Park Day
This is such a great addition to the March National Calendar, and at a great part of the month; the end. A walk in the park is an action that can help in many ways. It provides, exercise, relaxation and unwinding, clarity, peacefulness, and so much more. Taking a walk in the park on March 30th not only recognizes the day; it allows you to reflect on your March goals and re-align areas in your life that may not have received the attention you intended to give it.
31. National World Back-Up Day
A day to ensure your digital and electronic files are secure and backed up, so that you will not risk losing them. I think we all could take a moment on March 31st and double check our files; I totally would hate to lose all my pictures from my world travels!
With all these fun March events; perhaps, you will want to spend some of them in the Entertainment Capital of the world!
